iOS 27 is Exactly What I wanted
WARNING
Please don't be a dummy like me and install Developer Betas on your main phone or laptop.
WWDC had their keynote on Monday, and while yes there was a lot of talk about AI, but there was a lot of other stuff they talked about that is great.
Apple clearly heard the cries of the people, outside of the AI there is no big new features (although I'm sure there's something they're keeping up their sleeve for September) instead there seems to have been a big focus on fixing things. There where promises of performance upgrades in almost every way, launching apps, file transfers and airdrop. Also Improvements promised for the networking have been promised.
So as soon as the keynote was over I went and downloaded iOS 27 Developer Beta 1 to my main phone. I was prepared for it to be like most years where especially in beta 1 its a bit of a shit show. I was pleasantly surprised though.
Now Two days in I am getting great battery life, the same or better performance as 26.5 and now I can set liquid glass to be fully frosted and actually see what I'm doing. Obviously there is still a lot of potential for errors and bugs here but going by past betas Beta 1 is always the worst one so the fact this is so good really is fulfilling my hopes and dreams that 27 would be a Snow Leopard year.
I'm happy that amidst all the doom and gloom of the tech industry right now Apple is doing everyone a sloid with good cheap hardware and actual improvements to the software and most importantly the AI stuff is all optional so you don't have to engage with it at all should you not desire it and just stay on the old dumb as rocks siri.
Icing on the cake is also that 27 does not drop any devices from 26 meaning iPhone 11 users get another year of support and I assume the performance upgrade will be much more noticeable there than it is on my 17 Pro.
Then there was promise of Siri AI, I am very skeptical of the use of this as with a lot of AI, I have joined the waitlist to try it but if it is like the original apple intelligence roll out I imagine it will be US English first so might not get this until the full release. Once I get access I will be sure to share my thoughts.
